Labor Of Love

Today is Labor Day in the United States. It is supposed to be a day of rest for the workers of the country. Of course, there is always work to be done. Like teach your kids how to ride a bike!

Declan took to his bike a bit earlier than my other two children. Probably because we ride as a family more than we did with them. He is the last child I will teach to ride. He is the last one to earn his wings. A good day.

Go teach your kids to ride a bike!

  1. One thing that I did to avoid bending over and holding on to the saddle, when my daughter was learning to ride a bike, was to stick a broom handle below the saddle and down all the way to near the pedal (bottom of the top tube, bottom tube, the triangle, if you know what i mean). I would hold on to the broom and run after the bike. Then, sooner or later, I would let go the broom handle and my daughter kept on riding without falling. Well, of course, like all of us, she fell once or twice but eventually, she got the hang of it. It took me 4-5 hours to teach her to ride without training wheels.

Teaching children to ride a bike is a joyous event!

I am happy for you!! Have lots of fun!!

    Peace :)

  2. I was surprised- Declan took maybe 30 minutes over 2 days to get going. I think it helps a lot that all of my kids learned how to ride after I went into physical therapy. Teaching people to walk translates well into teaching kids to ride : )
